End of term Head Race with Sir William Borlase and RGS
Saturday 12th December saw the three local rowing schools gather at Longridge for another local derby. Of the five events where there was direct competition GMS won three , by an average winning margin of around 14 seconds and we came second in the closest race of the day by 1.5 seconds, in the year 11 boys quads.
We altered the boat classes and crew line ups from last time. The seniors racing coxless quads rather than single sculls. The results however were pretty similar with GMS boys and girls quads both being the fastest in their categories. While there was no direct competition for Lottie McIntyre and Maddie Jones in their double, they did beat on of the Borlase boys doubles.
At Year 11 there was a very strong field of boys quads, and ahead of time a Borlase coach mentioned that this was their strongest squad , of whom they have very high hopes. The results were very close with SWB winning by 1.5 seconds from GMS.
In the next division we had year 10 crews and both schools had changed their line ups from our last race. In the boys event, SWB took first place but we did beat the RGS crews convincingly. In the girls event we won
Winning Crews
Sixth Form Boys 4x Hugo Loretto, Aidan Kelly, Leo Simpson, Henry Gavin
Sixth Form Girls 4x Hannah Clayton, Ruth Rackstraw, Natasha Stewart, Anna Bradley
Year 10 Girls 4x+ Emily Downing, Hannah Angelides, Milly Hopkins, Ocean Dove, cox Will Clayton
