Hi
So, the National Schools Regatta is suddenly upon us. It takes place from Friday 24th May to Sunday 26th May at Dorney Lake. It is undoubtedly the biggest and most social rowing event in the calendar! As in previous years, GMSBC will have a marquee along the course where generally the parents/supporters ‘hang out’ and the rowers spend their time when they are not racing.
This year, Carlos & Joy (year 11 parents and owners of local pubs – including of course the new Oarsman!) have very generously offered to provide a BBQ for rowers and parents/supporters throughout the day, from Friday to Sunday. They have asked that we do not charge a per person food ticket, but instead that people make donations towards the ‘engine fund’ for any food they consume. Their son, Rafael, finishes GMS this summer and this is their gift back to the Boat Club.
As well as the BBQ, Carlos & Joy will be providing salads/pasta/rice/potato, etc., but we ask that parents bring along a supplementary item to add to the food table for all to share – suggestions are high carb salads, quiche, sausage rolls, etc.. In addition to the BBQ and savoury items, please could parents bring along healthy snacks/cakes/fruit for all to share. Mr Murison is keen that the rowers do not over indulge on sweet items, but have a healthy high carb diet throughout their racing sessions.
I have tried to share the load of what year groups could bring, please see below. Please don’t feel that you must bring too much as in previous years a lot of food has been thrown away.
FRIDAY (any queries please speak to Julie Johnson – year 9). Not too much is needed, only 4 crews racing –
Year 9 + Year 10 (GIRLS AND BOYS) - please bring along:
Savoury Snacks / Salads – to top up the savoury food table
Healthy Snacks, ie. cereal bars and fruit
Cakes – no fresh cream – suggest flapjacks/banana cake/etc.
Fruit + Ice if you would like Pimms!
SATURDAY
Senior Girls – (any queries to Sarah McIntyre – year 11)
Cakes – no fresh cream – suggest flapjacks/banana cake/etc.A small selection of chocolate bars – for after the racing
